On Sunday, 27th September the Hampshire Farmers’ Market at Winchester will be alive with activity and special events to celebrate the great Hampshire Hog, with the return of the popular Piglet Racing Event, which attracted large groups of spectators last year.
Alex Handford, HFM Business Manager commented: “The Piglet Racing event was such a huge success last year, enjoyed by all especially the children, that we decided to run it again. The whole event is a great opportunity for us all to celebrate the award winning food that the Hampshire Farmers’ Market brings to Winchester at our fortnightly markets and to give visitors a fun day out for all the family.”
There will be a pig themed competition for the children on the day – ‘Where’s Percy Pig’.
The HFM pork producers will be presenting their award winning produce, with plenty of hot food to go, including the renowned Hog Roast, bacon and egg sausages, pork pies and newly launched charcuterie range from Ambrose Sausages.
A number of the HFM producers will also be presenting some special offers on the day.
The Hampshire Hog Day will be the centre piece of the Hampshire Farmers’ Markets celebrations within the British Food Fortnight, which runs from 19th September until 4th October, which promotes all that is good about home grown food, encouraging shoppers to buy British local food, the value of eating fresh, in season food and how it helps the economy at the same time.
The market and Hampshire Hog event with Piglet racing will take place in the HFM’s existing location in Middle Brook Street Car Park and will run from 9 am – 2pm.
The Piglet Racing – a series of races will be run between 10 am until 1pm
